Metallica: Nothing Else Matters

Picture a quiet hotel room in 1990: James Hetfield sits on his bed, cradling a phone receiver with one hand while his other plucks a tender, open E-minor melody on an acoustic guitar. Metallica’s powerhouse frontman was crafting "Nothing Else Matters," a profoundly intimate ballad he initially kept secret, terrified heavy metal purists would revile its raw vulnerability. Thankfully, drummer Lars Ulrich overheard the demo, recognized its soul-stirring brilliance, and convinced Hetfield to unleash it upon their legendary 1991 Black Album. Accompanied by Adam Dubin's candid, behind-the-scenes music video, the track shattered every stereotype in the rock canon.
